For my son’s 4th of July outfit, I used red and white striped cotton shirting and navy blue broadcloth to make a short-sleeved button down shirt with a front yoke and collar and a pair of cargo shorts. Both the shirt and shorts are based off of Simplicity 4760 with a number of modifications.
You know when your kids outgrow their denim shorts, but they are still perfectly wearable? Or when kids wear holes in the knees of their jeans during the winter, and by the time it’s warm enough for cutoffs the jeans are too small in the waist? Add panels on the sides and bind the bottom, and you’ve got a new pair of shorts!
Here’s what to do!
I made this patriotic dress for my daughter right before Memorial Day, and as I mentioned, I was a little concerned that the points on the cutout star on the back wouldn’t stay up over time. True enough, after a couple washes, they started flopping around.
